While the living room has been slowly coming together over the last ten months, mostly pieced together from our existing furniture, I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s done. A new rug; a new light fixture (already spotted at the Lighting Shoppe in Cambridge); and a new closet door are top of the list; (let’s not even talk about the crazy plaster ceiling right now). But, the thing that has been getting on my nerves the most is the uber awkward corner where our record collection currently sits.
Pre-ottoman, Saturday-morning, naked feet shot.
It’s like a grade school dance. Or, like the first time you meet your in-laws when they walk in on you making out with their son (true story). It’s just so weird. The problem is that it is right next to the door. We have a basic landing strip on the other side, so I don’t really want to put another table/dresser on the right. I thought a bookshelf might be an option, but with the floating shelves we put in on the opposite wall, it wouldn’t really work.
So, for now, I think our best option is creating a little reading nook. Adding a comfy chair, a little side table, some art, and maybe shifting the vintage yellow light over there. Some inspiration I’ve been scouting:
What do you guys think? Is a chair going to make coming in the door feel extra cluttered? (Our porch is our sudo-foyer). Maybe I should just get a marble statue of Jeff and I done and plunk it down right there? People… I need some outside opinions on this one.

A Swell Place to Dwell

there is always the options of the classic deacons bench for storage and shoe puitting on or an ornante umbrella stand, with shoe changing bench and key holding tray.
I love the ornate umbrella stand idea. Step 1: amass a stylish collection of “umbrelli”.
LOL! I only have one umbrella and it’s short so I hang it on a hook by our front door. I say try it out. Looks like you have a little chair, scooch it on over and test it out!
PS-Glad I found your blog..or maybe I’m glad you found mine… =)
Nice to find you too! 1920s fixer-upper pals!
